Testing! Testing! Molly and the Open Cat Flap

All week cat mother has slept on the sofa with us whilst she experiments with Molly and the cat flap. Molly can get out and can't seem to get back in again! Doh!

Today cat mother left it as late as possible and finally left for a hen's night out in London. Her companion has not been invited and so Cat Mother is coming back. In the mean time, Molly has not been put on the lead; the cat flap is unlocked and when last I looked, Molly was outside!

This is going to be so interesting since Molly has always relied on cat mother 2 help her through the cat flap to get back in again.I know where cat mother is coming from. As long as she is there and either one of us needs help cat mother is there for us however this is not helping Molly get with the cat flap programme!

The only way cat mother knows how is to remove herself from the situation, literally and physically... let's hope she is still around when cat mother gets home.... It's cold at night and there sure are a lot of warm homes round here...

Molly has some disgusting habits

It's my job 2 bring in the toys. Cat mother occasionally indulges as but there really is no need since I enjoy the thrill of the chase and how I get my buzz is by pinching toys that belong 2 others.

Sometimes, I hit Molly's toy spot and this I did with a tiny little pink and white soft toy in the guise of a dolphin. I'd swear it had catnip in it except I am quite repulsed by it. Molly has chewed it to a wet sopping clump of ugh! And, she insists on dunking it in our jelly ladden dinner twice a day and plopping it in our bowl of water as she takes a sup.

I know that cat mother's feelings on the subject echo my own as she refuses to throw it for Molly's dog fetch game. Personally I'd have tossed it long ago but cat mother is a soft touch and simply does not like to take away anything that either of us has become attached to...sigh...

Molly is outed!

Cat mother was home virtually all w/e (fab!) and determined 2 get Molly 2 fully engage with the cat flap programme.  Gotta hand it 2 her! Cat mother was pretty patient! Up! Down! Up! Down!

By Sunday afternoon Molly could get out unaided and it wasn't until late Sunday night that she finally got the hang of coming in... Sort of...Molly keeps working against the door trying 2 pull the door 2wards herself instead of just going with the flow and working with the door and pushing outwards.

As a result cat mother slept on the sofa again 2 b nrear the cat flap in case of Molly #fail.

Overall I think it all went well...I don't know. I was phasing in and out a bit. I wasn't worried as I had cat mother's tummy (next favourite position after lap.)

So cat mother ignores the walking alarm and settles for the work alarm and notices that my partner in crime is nowhere 2 b seen. Cat mother opens the windows (it's way 2 early 2 call 4 Molly) and gets to the lounge window when all of a sudden we hear this rather loud, self pitying and frustrating scream!!

It's her alright and cat mother rushes into the garden and discovers that the lady Molly is up on next doors roof. I know as far as I was concerned there was a massive déjà vu hit as I remembered having been in that situation myself, unable 2 get down!  Panic sets in as u simply cannot remember how you got up there in the 1st place! All rational thought goes out the window!  There is no logical thought process!  What is going through the mind in that situation is that cat mother is here and it's her job 2 get u down and it ain't happening quickly enough!  Heart beat is pumping 2 the dozen and ur pacing up and down and round and round all the time screeching ur heart out!  Cat mother is tslking 2 u, u know this logically.  She is telling u whar ti do or whete 2 b so she csn puck u up but it's all meaningless as suddenly life just flashes before u!  At some point and eho knows how cat mother grabs hold of u, rescues u and suddely everything is okay...

Cat mother is extremely responsive 2 our cries of woe and it's almost as if everything else is blocked out as she tunes in2 us 2 resolve our pain!

Sure enough, cat mother had 2 go out the front door in her pink spotted pj's, found a bucket she could step up on and rescue Molly.

Then.  Silence, purring, darkest dawn, stroking, re-assurance.  I know this because it's exactly where I was at late November/December last year and cat mother nearly had kittens then!  Bongo took a little longer than me.  It goes in stages.
1. there is familiarity with local surroundings, gardens and cats - done!

2. Then.  There is the getting out front stage - we live on a bus route, albeit unlike the Old Kent Road so I'm told; and we r a few minutes from a rail station (I was rescued from near there once and I got such a scolding!)

3. And most important of all is the streetwise stage which is a never ending story.  I'm quite good at it, if I do say do myself, however I'm not sure that Bongo ever got this far and this may well be why he us know longer with us...

I think cat mother has had enought 4 now and so Molly is back on the lead.  This is also in part due to the fact that the builders now have access 2 home again 2 finish the snagging and extras list (not much left 2 do now). Traffic and people between 0900 and 1700 Monday 2 Friday is so much greater than at any other time that I think it will be a little while b4 Molly is free 2 come and go 24/7 as I am.

BTW, I notice that we have almost finished the other brand and Whiskas is back in the cupboard again ...thank goodness...

And, after the massive clean up at the week-end one would never know the builders had ever been there.  Let's hope it stays that way...

Peace

Eating preferences

I think cat mother is finally getting the message.

We love the food we get and the variety of choice afforded us however
the simple fact is that Whiskas pouches are where it's at and it
doesn't have 2 b the premium brand either.

Whiskas or not, we don't do cans

There are 24 pouches of the other stuff which we'll do our best 2 get thru. If it happens again, we'll be eating elsewhere ... ay ay ayyyy!

Cat life and Autumn

Well, it's been a while, I confess but what with one thing and another
it's been right busy and life is only just settling back in2 some sort
of routine.

Firstly, cat mother fell out with "the family" big time and when this
happens she is even more dependant on us 2 keep her sane. Nothing
comes for free and for our board and lodging, this is our job! Of
course she works with us 2 keep her on the straight and narrow and
this being the mother of all fall outs we have our work cut out! By
the time cat mother comes home I try and make sure I'm around for the
best of the cuddles, hugs and kisses. Molly unfortunately does not
gave much choice right now.

It takes cat mother generally about an hour 2 settle down and then
what we all like is when the blanket comes out, the tv goes on or a
book is read and being a lap cat the lap is mine! Molly as it
happens , loves Jessica's bed so it's a win win situation all round.

On a Friday its cat mother sleep over night which is 2 say she will
sleep with us in the lounge on the sofa since we r not allowed 2 sleep
over night in her bedroom on account of me inevitably using her duvet
as a toilet! At £17 a clean (Johnsons) I guess I can kind of
understand her need 2 put her foot down...sigh...anyhow, where was I?

Aah yes! So with the fall out of the family, it's unlikely that we'll
get 2 c the children {:0(} and of course all the holiday and Christmas
arrangements have had 2 b changed. One such holiday was a yoga
retreat during which cat mother did a healing exercise, came back
fighting strong and is now over the other side in terms of resolving
family issues.

Regarding the kitchen, our stay in the cattery was unavoidably
extended by a further 5 days as dry rot and rotten lintels were
necessarily repaired and when we finally came back on the 3rd Saturday
in September, there was concern on our part that the Cattery wouldn't
return us home as we all seemed 2 b having such a good time!

Even now the place is still not banged 2 rights but I understand this
all changes at the week-end. The main builder completed most of the
work and then went on holiday 4 a week and came back Monday gone.
There is a small snagging list 2 complete and when all comes 2 all the
kitchen is a vast improvement on how it was including no plinths and
loads of space 4 us 2 get under the cupboards (a slight cause of
concern 4 cat mother but what r u gonna do?) The wicked sparkly floor
and worktops make for an easy clean situation in case, what with bad
weather and all, accidents happen as we are prevented from going
outside (I know this is lame but we simply don't do bad weather and as
far as Molly's cat litter tray goes...I'll do number 2's in there if I
have 2 but there r plenty of nice new surfaces for number 1's...)

True 2 her word cat mother has let Molly out, unharnessed, 4 the last
2 week-ends. I keep farely close by and so far she hasn't really
wandered 2 far from the neighbouring gardens. Like me she has
multiple bells on so cat mother can hear when she is around and I must
say I'm glad 2 note her picking fights does not stop with me. Every
cat is her fearsome play mate and every couple of hours a cat fight
can be heard with cat mother calling her name in an attempt 2 reign
her in. Honestly, for 1 so small she has a lot of gumption especially
considering she is the newest cat on the block. In my view she really
should tone it down and show some respect however I'm not interfering!

As u might imagine the last 2 week-ends has seen cat mother
conveniently in the garden (keeping an eye/ear on Molly) generally
preparing things 4 winter. She lit the chiminea for the 1st time on
Sunday and that was fun.

Traditionally from September 2 December is cat mother's social time
however the good thing is this has been limited in the main 2 Fridays;
where possible she will always come home 4 our sleep overs; time spent
with others is time away from us and I know she misses us when she us
away. Fortunately we r major pull factors when it comes 2 cat mothers
home life.

The other thing that's happened is that cat mother has started a 10
week philosophy course and what with her reading the Dalai Lama,
researching Buddhism and spirituality, our place is gonna become much
more of a place of rest than ever b4. 1st it was burning essential
oils, now it's joss sticks and she's even bought a mediation chair
(though I must admit 2 making more use of than she does)...sigh...even
doing nothing she's always doing something...well u know what...I'm
stretching and yawning and I guess it's about that time..

oh btw... One of her laptops has died (joy!) and she seems 2 b keeping
laptop business 2 the week-ends and this is most definitely in part
due 2 the addition of her new bff...all hail the iPhone...

peace

Bliss

Life really is quite blissful at the moment!

Molly is affectionate, loving and very tactile. She loves cleaning herself and will clean me if she gets half a chance. We sleep 2gether and I simply find that I don't like 2 b away from her 4 long periods of time. Cat Mother loves this as it means I stick around home more and she does't have 2 worry about me as much.

Cat Mother has done 1 over night stay and got Adam from upstairs 2 come in and spend some time w/ us but thankfully she does not seem 2 want 2 make a habit of this.

Cat mother has decided that Molly shall essentially be a house cat until October when all the kitchen work will b finished. She has been debating about whether Molly shud remain as a house cat 4 ever but this wud b blatant cruelty as Molly is already showing signs that she wishes 2 explore the big wide world outside.

We luv Jessica's bed and can't thank her enuf 4 providing this. When will we c her again?

From Molly - in Jessee's bed

Whilst the kitchen is being done, Molly and I will b in a Cattery. I've only been 2 the 1 and I guess as these things go it's pretty cool. Cat mother herself went and checked it out b4 she put Bongo and I in there earlier this year and Pets 2 The Vets r cool 2. The contractors will move in and there's going 2 b a good couple of weeks of mayhem! Glad we won't b around 2 witness it!

The Persian Tan Number AKA Foxy is still hounding me and I'm not sure what to do about it. Yesterday he was so quick that I cudn't make it 2 the cat flap in time and only just made it into the jungle. Cat Mother came rushing out 2 protect me and carried me indoors...I'd had enuf 2 b honest and needed some TLC.

Molly's alright 4 a girl. She'll get involved in the odd fight. Just gotta ensure it's always me that wins, is all.

She also scratches quite a bit and cat mother sorted that right out by giving her a shot of Bongo's
Advocate flea/worming capsule.

Molly continued

She really is a pretty little thing.

She's a lilac Siamese with a tabby tail which is always flayed out as if she is running scared.

She neadles as well which is something Bongo and I have never done. That is 2 say that when she is given attention she moves her front paws up and down gently sometimes extending her paws like as if she is tip to-ing. It is very sweet.

She is quick 2 purr as well as I am.

Her fur is soft, maybe even softer than mine and unbelievably she makes me look big and there's not much of me, I can tell u.

Food has moved under the chimney breast in the kitchen w/ extras being placed in front of the dishwasher. She likes wet food which I'm not fond of but I don't like 2 b left out so I shall give it another try.

She arrived w/ these amazing biscuits so Cat Mother is going 2 get in touch w/ her previous owner 2 find out what they r.

Tuesday saw a return 2 the bedroom, thank goodness. Admittedly there was a crash and a cup smashed but that was more about Cat Mother changing bad habits and learning 2 put things away when she has finished w/ them instead of leaving things lying around....sigh...

Day 2 - Molly

The alarm went off @ 04:00 4 Cat Mother 2 do her 2 hour 10 km walk and instead she transferred herself 2 the sofa so I cud lie on her tummy until 06:00 when she got up and got ready 4 work.

At all times her mind was ticking 2 c how she was going 2 leave us. After all, 4 all she knew, we cud kill each other by the time she got back. There was also the cat flap business 2 think about. I lost my magnet ages ago and in any case the cat flap has been de-activated in the hope that brother Bongo will come back but of course with all the neighbourhood cats showing such an interest in Molly Cat Mother was worried about the state she wud find Molly in if she didn't do something 2 protect her latest fur baby.

Cat Mother can b surprisingly resourceful when presented with a problem and here's what she did. She prepared a 2nd helping of food and placed it in the lounge. She made sure Molly was comfortable and then locked her in the kitchen and bathroom. This meant I had free range of the lounge and the bedroom and cud get out the cat flap. At lunch time she rang Pets Corner @ Hove Lagoon and asked if they cud deliver 3 cat flap magnets if she paid over the phone. She arrived home and was delighted 2 find us both home. She got rid of the divide and allowed us 2 get near 1 another and get 2 know each other. And do u know what? I think there is potential in this budding relationship but it's early days yet.

@ around 20:00 the cat magnets arrived. I was fitted w/ 1 and the magnetised cat flap was re-activated. Home wud once again become my domain and the need 4 spraying, stop.! I notice Cat Mother has started closing the bedroom door again when she leaves 4 work.

At bed time she prepared a bed on the sofa and I slept w/ her there. Molly cried 4 short periods of time periodically throughout the night but I think it's going 2 b alright.

Getting Molly

Well, this is all about cat mother.

She arranged with Cecil and Tom that they would cat sit for me on Saturday 4th July. They arrived at around 12 and Cat Mother was still blogging/waiting on the Virgin Media Guy (the phone hadn't been working all week)/Packing.

Miraculously, she got the 12:47 to London Victoria and then made her way to Euston to the Fast Ticket machine and was well in time for the 14:46 to Nuneaton equipped with overnight bag including laptop and iPod, cat basket and attached trolley.

At 16:16 Big Bruv picked her up from Nuneaton station and the evening pretty much passed uneventfully. It was lovely to be fed, to see the children and to watch Monkey Magic and relax.

At 3am, Cat Mother awoke from Jessica's bedroom and forced herself to stay in bed until 4 when she took Hamish and went for her 2 hour 10km walk. She returned at 6am and breakfasted and showered and together with Big Bruv, departed for Humberside at 8:05am

They arrived at Molly's house in Humberside having had one stop over at 10:45. Big Bruv sat in the car whilst Cat Mother went in with the basket. By all accounts Molly was mothering kittens and her teats were engorged however she had been neutered some 3 weeks previous.

Cat mother did the business, got Molly's papers and came away with Molly in basket, papers, cat litter (pine wood based) and some biscuits.

On the way home, they stopped of at Pets Homes in Nuneaton where Cat Mother bought toys, tag, collar and the like.

Upon arriving at Nuneaton, Molly was put in the garden and tied to the lawn mower to stop escaping. The kiddies were all enthralled with her and she seemed very affectionate.

Sunday dinner came and went and then laptop business (Office 2007) had to be done by Big Bruv. After Roast Lamb; Peaches, jelly and ice-cream, cat mother finally left the LJBs at 4:45 and caught the 16:47 to London Euston arriving there at 18:47. Then it was into a taxi from there to London Victoria as she couldn't bear to put her on the tube and then having missed the home train, a train from London Victoria to Brighton at 19:36 and finally a train from Brighton to home at 20:48. Molly arrived home at 21:00.

Course, cat mother was in a right state and put Molly on a lead tied to the swing in the garden whilst she watered it. Honey, Adelaide and myself were all mesmerized with the new addition which cat mother found rather funny.

I circled around her and she snarled at ME! as if she was the Queen of the castle!

Fortunately, Cat Mother tied her to the bathroom radiator on a very long leash which gave her control of the bathroom and the kitchen and I was able to continue to come and go through the cat flap in the lounge and the bedroom. As Cat Mother made dinner and drinks in the kitchen I occasionally went into the kitchen and sat on my stool where Cat Mother took great trouble to give me loads of strokes so I wouldn't feel left out.
Cat Mother had a shower and washed her hair and Marmite from next door landed on the ledge and as Cat Mother held Molly in her arms, Marmite just looked on totally fascinated and seemed to lick his lips suggesting that she might be an exciting new toy to play with. Well! Cat Mother wasn't having any of that and resolved to get Cat Flap magnets as soon as possible to stop the neighbourhood cats from coming in and causing any upset whilst she is away at work.

22:30 came and went and Cat Mother was tired and went to go to bed in the bedroom and then Molly started playing up. She has a very loud Miaow, not unlike a child crying and so Cat Mother moved a Thai Cushion into the kitchen and slept with Molly on her tummy until 0400 when she was due to get up and go for a walk.

The Beginning is Bingo

This has started where another blog has finished. Although this feels heartless, it is also necessary in terms of categorising the information stored on the blogs I create.

Today, I go to Nuneaton, and then with Big Bruv travel to Humberside to collect Molly

I can only hope they will be the best of friends....and if Bongo comes back...the more the merrier
